Fish out of water

So much rest!!
I was planning on doing my grey skull strict press yesterday but i got my hair done after work and by the time I got out of there, both my crossfit gym and school gym was closed. Not to mention I was STARVING. So I just couldn't get time to workout. Today was supposed to be my squatting day but I'm still so sore from Monday, it would be unwise to squat heavy this close to a competition. Especially one that this going to be HEAVY. I'll do pulse tonight just to get some cardio in but after that, I will be taking Thursday and Friday easy.

Speaking of my competition, I thought I would elaborate a little more on what I am doing this weekend and how it is so incredibly out of my comfort zone. The video over yonder gives a little recap of last years competition and good luck finding anyone that you wouldn't describe as a "heavy hitter".

"So why are you doing this AJ??" Because 1. I love my boyfriend and he conned me into doing it 2. I love the people of his gym and I know they will cheer me on no matter what. 3. Because regardless of my level of embarrassment, this will make me stronger.  I have no problem being at the bottom of the totem pole especially because there are some incredible athletes attending this weekend. I am just going to smile and (attempt to) lift some heavy stuff!

Week 4, Day 1 - Uglier the face, the harder you're working

From what I see, when most girls workout this is what they look like:

Then there's me:
Looking like I'm pigeon-toed and
about to suck your soul out.

Maybe I was just never meant to be a fitness model. lol I will keep telling myself that the more horrifying the face the more effort you must be putting in ...because I was definitely looking demon-like as I squatted today.

my view for most of the session
Smolov:
4x9 @ 120

Thoughts: I definitely was nervous all day for these sets. Nine squats in a set is A LOT for me. It was really mentally taxing more than anything and around number 6 each set was where the face got ugly and I started getting woozy. My quads were on fire and still burning as I type. God bless my crossfit family because I was that girl grunting and wheezing uncomfortably loud as I tried to shoot up from the bottom of my squat. I gave myself a decent amount of rest between sets, which involved me lying lifeless on the floor staring up at the bar. It hurt so good!

Cool down:
3 miles on bike
Thoughts: Kept the pace about 85 rpm but nothing too taxing, trying to keep things light as I head into a comp this weekend.

Intake:
Breakfast: Coffee with protein and PBJ
Lunch: Two turkey burgers with half an avocado, plantain chips and half a wheat tortilla
Pre-workout: Power bar
Post-workout: Rezzerect shake
Dinner: taquitos with avocado

I will be pushing back Friday's lifts and probably Wednesday's lifting session to prepare for the brutal competition that is Pipehitter's Classic. I must say, I think I will miss my squats!

The calm before the storm

What an awesome weekend. Saturday means morning workout! I mixed pre-workout with coconut water and it was delicious.

Wod:
3 rds for time (45 min time cap)
100 sit up throws
200 double unders
100 barbell squats
200 double unders
200 m run with barbell overhead

Results: 2 rds with Tabitha
Thoughts: This was tough! The worst part was definitely the squats. My quads were on fire but I am feeling only a little sore today. I got 140 double unders in a row on saturday which was great.

After the workout, I went up to Indy to hang out with two of my favorite home girls. After surviving some nightmarish traffic, we went and got our nails done and then went to the maroon 5 concert. It was amazing! Today is just a recovery day, I'm just going to fuel up for the week and stretch. My squatting this week is going to be different because I have a big competition coming up on Saturday. I think I already have butterflies!
